Saturday 26 April meant an early morning trip to Kingscliff and it was a lovely day to play just behind the sand dunes at the beach. Despite the day off before and the long trip down the boys started the first half very well and had a number of good chances.
With Kingscliff having good results, Coomera showed that they were not easy beats and certainly surprised a few who had studied the table. A number of good combinations proved dangerous and our guys were able to fairly easily penetrate the Kingscliff midfield.
I was pleased with the first half and thought that the guy were doing everything that was expected of them.
Unfortunately, Kingscliff managed to put away a number of goals in second half and our efforts went unrewarded. From my point of view the guys should hold their heads up high- once again they have proved themselves player for player the equal of any Div 2 team. We need to continue to work on finishing off our attacking moves but there has been some great improvement.
It is only a matter of time before we get a win and I believe we can produce better results in return legs against all of the teams. I am disappointed for the team in not getting too many points, but their efforts have been great.
Thanks to Aaron and Troy who shared the goalkeeping position during the game. it would have been fabulous for Jalen to score against his old team but he and about 5 others put away good shots on goal.
Focus this week at training will continue to be shots on goal, aerial control, and attack.
Well done Coomera.
We went down 5-0 to Kingscliff.

This weeks game is at Kingscliff. The junior fields are at Walter Peate Oval, Murphys Road, Kingscliff. I am a bit hazy on Kingscliff but it is located close to the main road into Kingscliff – Wommin Bay Road on the northern side of the town. Kick off is at 9.30am, please be there by 9am. If you need a lift, I will depart Coomera soccer at 7.45am. Please let me know if your fellow needs a lift.
Arrangements have started to reschedule the Pacific Pines game. They wanted to play on the Sunday of the Labour Day weekend, which I declined as a great option for families. I am hoping we can play on one of our training nights, possibly a Wednesday instead of training. I am very vary of protecting family time and the commitment of you people. I, myself, am involved with soccer every day except Sunday so it is a pretty special day.
May the Colts knock out the Wolves!
The game against Magic United was our best result so far the season, in that we scored freely. The rain and lack of approved officials were disappointing parts of the game.
I don’t like highlighting the goal scorers too much as each goal is a real team effort that can start with the Goalie or defenders. The boys will correct me but I think that Danny, Andrew, Lian and a Magic player scored for our four goals. The boys are starting to look dangerous throughout the field and put together some good moves.
The dissapointing element was that the game continued after our Goalie, Bradley, was lying injurred on the ground. This should not be allowed to happen as the safety of players of either side is more important than anything.
I believe that although the boys lost, they enjoyed scoring a number of goals and the attacking moves. My focus over the last two weeks has been getting shots on and scoring. We scored once against Mur’bah and improved against Magic. With players of this age, the scores are reasonable high, so we have to be able to score goals to do any good. The next step is to score more goals than the opposition. This will come, as I believe we have not yet been outclassed player for player by any team.
Talking about the team, we have a large proportion of the team who want to play up front of midfield. We obviously need defense at times as well and a goalie. My solution at this stage is to adapt some of the positions so that backs can move up the field when appropriate as long as someone covers them and they get back when needed. Andrew proved the success of this during the last few games. The other strategy is to rotate the boys through either defence midfield or midfield forwards.
We have to work on defence as well and this will come but games will be only won by outscoring the opposition plus the boys get great deal of enjoyment as long as they are scoring – we are here for the boys’ enjoyment after all.
I will have a separate entry for the Kingscliff game.

Hi,
I will post here later tonight any update on the game tomorrow at Murwillumbah. I have checked the Murwillumbah Soccer Club website but it does not appear to have too much recent information. The best channel will be via Gold Coast Soccer website.
If you require a lift I will meet you outside the Clubhouse at 7am. At this stage I have two seats available. Please let me know on 0439467082 if you need a lift.
